What is an NCME subscription? The Network for Continuing Medical Education (NCME) is a scheduled series of electronic programs (video, DVD, CD-ROM) produced by an award-winning team of professionals. Program topics are pertinent to the physician's day-to-day practice, providing information on the latest developments in medicine and disease management, with:
DVD and videocassettes offer a timesaving and convenient way for physicians to stay abreast of the rapid changes in healthcare. For many, learning with the ease of digital formats that can be played on DVD players and computers has proven to be a powerful way to enhance their knowledge. The NCME system offers video-on-demand, giving physicians the flexibility to choose when and where they view in the hospital or at home. According to independent research, 50% of subscribers use the programs in a moderated grand rounds format or as part of a monthly department meeting, while the remainder chooses to watch on their own or in small groups. For additional "on-demand" viewing, NCME programs can be transferred to your hospital’s Intranet so staff can view them at their own convenience and pace. Continuous Service Since 1965 Since 1965, our subscribers and viewers have known and trusted us to provide thorough, relevant programming and ongoing support services. Physicians know they will receive timely, well-produced programs that focus on evidence-based medicine. Since its inception, NCME has produced and distributed nearly 2,000 video programs on the full spectrum of medical topics. Therapeutic areas for NCME programs include: Anesthesiology Cardiology Dermatology Emergency Medicine & Trauma Endocrinology Gastroenterology Gerontology Infectious Disease Neurology Obstetrics & Gynecology Oncology Pediatrics Psychiatry Practice Management & Quality Assurance Pulmonary Medicine Surgery Urology A Major Educational Resource The NCME system is designed to support hospital-based CME activity as a major educational resource. More than 800 subscribers, including hospitals and most of the nation's medical schools, currently use our service. More than 160,000 staff and attending physicians have regular access to NCME programs. CME Credit Annual subscriptions include a minimum of 12 program hours each year, delivered to subscribers on a prearranged schedule. NCME programs annually fulfill the requirements for: at least 12 and up to 24 credits in...
and 12 credit hours in...
NCME provides forms for physicians to use to document their participation in telecourses designated for credit. Physicians receive printed reports of their CME activities through NCME’s free computerized record keeping service. Each CME file is confidential and can be retrieved only upon request from the viewing physician. Timely and Relevant Content NCME camera crews and program staff are out on assignment every week of the year. Programs are digitally videotaped, edited, and delivered to subscribers every month within 30 days of production. This makes NCME programs more current than those from most other audiovisual resources even more up to date than most medical journals. Taking full advantage of video’s short lead time, NCME can respond quickly to new developments in medicine. Topic selection is based on timeliness as well as on the current educational needs and interests of the busy physician. Ongoing reviews by NCME’s Medical Advisory Board assure program accuracy, authenticity, and clinical significance. Programs fall into one of four basic program types:
Materials to Promote Viewing at Your Hospital With each program, subscribers receive professionally-designed printed materials, including bulletin board-style posters, free-standing Plexiglas easels with oversized posters, program brochures, and library catalog cards. This array of materials is used by the NCME liaison at each institution to help publicize the programs and increase physician utilization. |
